SLCS Summer School (2014 BJTU-BSU) for English majors was held from July 7th to 25th.

The summer school was held by BJTU and SLCS and received great support from AAO (Academic Affairs Office) and CIE (Center for International Education). It aims to help improve students’ English ability, broaden their international eyesight and gain knowledge about American history, culture and society.

This vacation lasted for three weeks and three professors from BSU (Bridgewater State University) were invited to give lectures of English Language and Linguistics, American Education and Culture and The History of Transportation Development in America. Undergraduate students attended the lectures.

Prof. John Marvelle, Prof. Ryan LaBrozzi and Prof. Richard Abers gave their classes by the forms of seminars and lectures. Students steeped themselves in the advanced educational concepts, teaching methods and teaching processes from abroad, tried to understand America’s language, society, culture, technology and local customs and learned to practice English and communicate within an intercultural environment. They were active both in and out of classes. Their learning abilities and attitudes gained praise from all three foreign professors. Besides, native professors also joined actively in the class, aiming to improve their teaching skills by seeing, learning and practicing.

BSU has long been a cooperative international partner to SLCS and they have exchanged scholars and students for years. This year’s summer school was the second one. After the lectures, both sides summarized and learned from this year project. And they had further discussion on curriculum forms, contents and future cooperation. This project helps to bridge the two sides’ cooperation and accelerate SLCS’s internationalization.
